CHILDREN & HYPNOSIS

Children Are Often The Best Patrons  For Hypnotherapy. Children can benefit from hypnotherapy in more ways than you might imagine. The research and clinical literature on hypnosis with children suggests that they are very suggestible and good hypnotic participants.  They are typically more easily hypnotizable than an adult. Children generally have very active fantasy lives, which will enable easy access to the imagination, making change work possible.

Dr. Murphy has a strong background working with developmentally challenged children and adults. Persons who suffer from Autism, Behavioral Issues, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Mental Retardation and other developmental challenges can greatly benefit from hypnosis and Neuro Stimulation Sound Therapy.

Hypnotherapy can help to eliminate habits such as:
Anger, Bed-wetting (enuresis), Encopresis (soiling), Fears, Habitually Fearful, Hair-pulling (trichotillomania), Nail biting, Stuttering, Thumb sucking, Sleep-Walking etc.

Hypnotherapy can help benefit children to improve in areas such as:
Acceptance, Confidence, Concentration, Creativity, Memory, Sleep disorders, Social skill, Sports, Self-esteem, Test anxiety, etc.

In adults an overwhelming number of case histories are of those who seek help understanding childhood memories. It is amazing how much damage can be done by a well-meaning, but misunderstood remark; especially when it comes from a trusted source like a parent or a teacher.

Children all have individual personalities, just as adults do. They each respond to comments by authority figures in their own way.

Teenagers greatly benefit from hypnotherapy. It is effective in improving concentration, memory and learning ability. Hypnotherapy is a wonderful tool for redirecting energy and negativity. It is also helpful in dealing with behavior problems such as peer pressure, anger, delinquency and drug addiction. With teenagers, however, motivation plays a much larger roll. It is essential that they understand and want the change.

Hypnotherapy can help children to understand what was really meant, and prevent the misunderstanding from becoming an emotional scar that would limit their personal growth or performance throughout their life.

Note:

The term Guided Imagery is often used interchangeably with Hypnosis. This relationship or reference is a misconception in Dr. Murphy's opinion. Guided Imagery is often used as a term to disguise the term hypnosis, since some individuals might have mixed feelings about the use of hypnosis. I want to point out that Guided Imagery is not the same as Hypnosis.  They are similar and often overlaps, hypnosis is not "just" guided imagery.

There are additional important elements to hypnosis that are not generally found in guided imagery. One can certainly engage in guided imagery during hypnosis, but not all hypnosis involves guided imagery, and guided imagery does not necessarily result in hypnosis.

More importantly, the skill for imagery is not the same as the skill for entering and using hypnosis. Clinical Hypnotherapy is superior; because it works with the subconscious mind more directly, while Guided Imagery is associated more with the conscious mind.

EXAMPLE: With guided imagery if I asked you to imagine a red apple. You would imagine that red apple. If I said change that apple from red to yellow, you would be able to do so.  With hypnosis the hypnotist could suggest that the red or yellow apple was a lemon, or that a lemon is an apple, or a lemon tastes like sugar and it would be real in the patrons mind. The difference is Guided Imagery would not change all the senses to cause one to actually beleive a lemon was sweet, or a lemon was an apple. Hypnosis can influence all five senses and create illusions and hallucinations.

Once again although Hypnosis utilizes Guided Imagery it is superior therapeuticallyI do not believe in using disguised terms to gain public acceptance; and contend it is better to inform the public of the true nature of the services I endorse.
